    I cannot make out the head of household occupation, what do you make of it?

      Took a bit of time finding this - its 1851, not 1841!

      First bit is constable last bit is charge/change
      middle bit looks like exetea

        Sorry Kiterunner, double checked everything, only to find Ive put the wrong census year, it should be '51. will change my first post, your right it is getting late, lol,

            I though much the same as you Nell, cant think what it means though, neighbours of westminster house of correction, don't know if that would have anything to do with it?

              Exeter Change....maybe that was his area of patrol....from Googling, it appears to have been an area in the Strand.

                This Punch article (1845) seems to suggest that it was an arcade (Shopping?). Perhaps James was responsible for patrolling it, perhaps as what we call nowadays, a private security guard.
