                            The difficulty is proving anything!

There's a Sarah Walker living in Chesterfield in 1901, listed as aged 21, adopted daughter.

Her adoptive mother is Susannah Egglesham (that's the transcription) aged 61 b Staffs Bilston.

Back in 1881 Susannah (aged 41 b Bilston) and her husband John Eggleston are in Brampton just outside Chesterfield. No adoptive daughter.

I can't find Susannah in between unless..............

I could only find a Susannah McDermot (right birth details) living in Chesterfield with "husband" Michael McDermot aged only 35. But they have a daughter Sarah (McDermot!) aged 11. <<<<<<< This is probably a completely red-herring family, so ignore me....just had to write it down in case it came in useful later!

I don't know why I even started this (lol), but I am trying to find where the adoptive daughter came from!!

When my father was born they were living in Langwith Rd, Scarcliffe,Mansfield 1907
[don't suppose that helps though lol]

                                  Possibly not!

That Michael McDermot who had the older wife Susannah (Eggleston?) in 1891 is a widower in 1901 but there's no deaths for a Susannah McDermot between the two censuses!

Do you know what day your grandmother's birthday was on? If so then it would help to narrow down birth registrations.
