  • Help deciphering these diaries please!

well i got the WW1 dairies, great reading... well what i can read of it. Poor grandad had to put it on scaps of paper hence the writing is so small in places, and very rushed.
The bits i am most interested in is when he is in France, he was wounded there and also made seargant, so thought i might pop these on a thread.. after they have been deciphered that is! lol
any help much appreciated. I will put the bits i need help with on here one at a time or it might get a bit confusing.. for me that is..

Sorry that just looks too faint to me.

I sympathise. My grandfather wrote to my grandmother from France, using a faint pencil on yellowy paper. A nightmare.

I typed it up leaving blanks where I couldn't work it out and then when I read it the words sometimes seemed obvious.

I have just googled the east Lancs, 11th Battn, Y coy, and found out loads that helps and ties in with the diaries... my goodness they fought some hard battles! no wonder grandad didnt talk much about it afterwards... poor man...
The 10 months i am concentrating on was the last german stance.. up to armistice day..

Here's the best I can make of it:

" 9th do. On Guard and Inspection
                                    " 10th do ----- and then proceeded
to Strazeale 60 mile ride by road
" 11th Estalts marching and making trenches
" 12th Metris wounded by shell----
                                    dropping on the parapet
12-19 Camiers in hospital 22nd General
20th-May4th Boulogne Convalescent camp no. 7
                                    May 4-11th Etaples still convalescent
May 12th H------ rejoined the Battn.
" 13th Castre working parties at night

15th Meteren? (which incidentally is not too far from Armentières)
I think 12 says 'Merris' - another local place
