I think Gwilyn is usually a surname,
living in Wales i have heard of it before.. but only as a surname.as rachel said the nearest christian name is with a M at the end.

Right just asked Welsh speaking next door neighbour.. Its a Male name .. christian, and also a surname .. thats the welsh for you ! lol

I knew a man called Gwilym. It was pronounced Gwillum and is the Welsh William. He was known as Bill.

Gwilym is the Welsh form of William, Gwylan is a girls name meaning seagull, I think yours is more likly Gwilym, its a very common name round here
