Hello, can anybody tell me where I would find the Trail Report of Mary Bailey, She was accused of her murder of her husband, and tried in Winchester in March 1784 and was burnt at the stake, her crime was Petty Treason.
It was a family myth , but after a little digging, it seems as if there is truth in it

            Sorry Sheila...must have crossed paths.

I think I did have to fill all the boxes, but just put anything I could think of in it. I know I got an email after I registered and that gave me a username and password.

See if you get an email, because that site is well worth it.

Sheila......when you registered what came on the screen?

You have to pick which publication you want to search. Try the 18th century ones and use British ones as there are some USA publications.

                            Hi Sheila
                            According to this timeline

Timeline of capital punishment in the UK

it seems Mary Bailey was the last to be burnt for petty treason, so it was probably a well-known case. Would most probably have been tried at Winchester Assizes. The site also says burning at the stake for petty treason was abolished in 1793 and replaced by hanging.
