  • Barnet rosenthal - tailor

    Hello all

I was just wondering if anybody could please help me narrow down when my Barnet Rosenthal came over from russia to england and what census he shows up on.
I have him on the 1891 census with his wife Rebecca, father Israel and kids Ettie, Samuel and Wolfe.

    Any help would be great

I can't see him in 1881 and there doesn't seem to be a marriage, so after the marriage and before the birth of the eldest child??

Do you know Rebecca's maiden name though?

Im not sure about Rebecca's maiden name. i kinda guessed they were married in russia but im not sure how to go about finding out.

Sorry Margaret but im not a member of ancestry.

There are some naturalisation papers on the TNA site. Wolf Rosenthal in Leeds, 1904, and a couple of Barnett Rosenthals (with two t's), but possibly too late to be yours.

                    Hey Mary

Do you reckon that that wolf may be mine? Because my Wolfe was actually born in leeds, it was his parents that came over and had him.

No idea, I don't know anything about naturalisation, I'm afraid. If he was born in England I would have thought he automatically got British nationality even if his parents were Russian, but I don't know what the law was in those days.

The National Archives site has a list of synagogue marriages in London, including a Barnett Rosenthal, but I don't think he's yours. He married a Dora Jacobs in 1902; a Rebecca Rosenthal died in London in 1901, but your Barnet is still with his Rebecca in Huddersfield on the 1901 census.

In 1901 there are two older Wolfe Rosenthal's living in Leeds both born in Russia.

Of course they might still be relatives of yours!

                                  Hey Merry

Im not sure if Louis or Morris are any of mine. Im just checking the ww1 service records to see if wolfes brother charley is on there, might mention address and such.
