  • Army Regiment has me stumped

    Can anyone help please...??

I am researching for a friend and I have hit a puzzle... He has found a War Memorial for his two great uncles.. We were told both of them had served with the Northumberland Fusiliers. Only one of them has the NF next to his name on the memorial. The other has YNH.... I have tried googling for YNH and for other North East Regiments only to come up with nothing...

Is there any Army Specialists out there that can solve my puzzle.??

    Many thanks..

    Got me stumped.
There's a Yorkshire Regiment and a York and Lancaster. I can't think what else the Y would stand for except Yorkshire. There was a Northumberland Yeomanry too, but that doesn't fit either

But I'm a mere girl, no expert! You will have to wait for one of the men I think Raven!

Have you looked on the CWGC site to see if they are listed - it normally shows the regiment.

Raven, what's his name, number and date of death, if you have them? Maybe we can find something from that info.

The following website gives you all the infantry regiments in the First World War. It may be that YNH are other letters on closer examination like LNL for Loyal North Lancs? Cannot find YNH amongst these regiments on here.

That's the thing Elaine all I have is his name which is Thomas Carr(1890) and supposedly he served with the Northumberland Fusiliers.
We have found his brother William(1895)

I have just looked through 330 WW1 medal cards for the name William Carr on the TNA site -cannot see anything that matches YNH. :(
