I'M LOOKING FOR...WELL, A LOT OF SURNAMES. BUT WAS WONDERING IF Y'ALL (YES, I LIVE IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE US) MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP. I AM TRYING TO FIND MY GRANDMOTHER ANNIE MAY CHRISTIAN BORN ON IOM IN 1910-12, LIVED WITH CHRISTIANs IN LIVERPOOL AFTER HER MOTHER'S DEATH DURING CHILDBIRTH IN 1916-17. SHE WAS THE 4TH OUT OF 6 DAUGHTERS, ONE WHO DIED AT CHILDBIRTH AND THERE WERE NO BROTHERS. ALSO WAS IN THE RAF DURING WWII AND CAME TO THE STATES WITH MY AMERICAN BORN GRANDFATHER (US ARMY AIR CORPS AFRICAN THEATER) IN 1947. SHE NEVER BECAME A US CITIZEN AND DIED ON THE IOM IN 1985-86.

ALSO LOOKING FOR THE COMSTOCKs. MY GREAT, GREAT, GREAT GRANDMOTHER'S NAME WAS CHAROLTTE COMSTOCK FROM ENGLAND BUT WAS LIVING IN MASS. USA DURING THE 1860S CENSUS? HER DAUGHTER, MY GRANDMOTHER'S MOTHER WAS ELENA COMSTOCK .

THEN ALSO SEARCHING SURNAME GAY AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON RESEARCHING THAT NAME...JEEZ, I'VE BEEN DIRECTED TO EVERY GAY PORN SITE ON THE WEB...CAN WE SAY NIGHTMARE? SO, I WAS GONNA ASK Y'ALL FOR SOME TIPS. THE GAYs AND COMSTOCKs FINALLY ENDED IN READFIELD MAINE IF THAT HELPS. CHEERS, LISA

    Hello marriner69................

I can't help with Christian or Comstock, but I do have a Gay (and I understand the pain of websites)

My Gay is Thomas Gay Ransford from Bristol. His mother was Ann Gay and I can't recall finding anything about her. She is not a direct line. Thomas married one of my Ariels(and that's another good one to google) .

I'll have a squizz. How much do you have? This lot did have some who went to USA (not sure about Gays) but they had plenty of money.

Was Comstock Charlotte's maiden name or married name? If it was a married name who was her husband and do you know where they married? Can you tell us how old Charlotte was in 1860 and when and where her daughter Elena was born?

Marriner, if you click on Gedcom at the top of this page and put the names into the search box, you can see if anyone else on this site is researching the same names. I see a few people have Christians from the IoM.

If that is the right Comstock family Merry found there is a birth for Ethel M. Comstock on the igi father Adin B. mother Lottie(short for Charlotte) Robinson.

If Charlotte can be found on later US censuses it should say what year she came to the States and hopefully she came over with her family and you'll be able to find them on passenger lists. If she didn't come over with family you'll need to get the marriage certificate to get her fathers name and hopefully trace back from there.

                  Hello Marriner69 ........ my OH's grandmother was a Gay ....... lol.

In the early 1800's they were in birmingham but I think the earliest one I have was born in Hampshire.

The name appears a lot in Cornwall.

Do you know the occupations of your Gays....... I ask because all of mine were either gunmakers, toolmakers or cutlers............ right up to 1900 they seemed to work with metal.
