  • Large Ark?

One of OH's ancestors, a Lancashire farmer who died in 1775, bequeathed his "large Ark" to his son. What would that have been?

:Dwas his name Noah by any chance?

An Arkright made Arks, an ARk being large wooden chests.

My 1935 Collins dictionary says it means (as well as the more obvious ones)......a chest or coffer. Also in farming it can be a mobile shelter for pigs or chickens, though the type would normally be specified.

Oh right, all that sprang to mind was the boat kind! If it was part of his farm equipment then I don't think he would have bothered mentioning it separately, so I think it must have been a wooden chest.

          Think 'Ark of the Covenant'.
