  • How to put a poem/writing over a photo?

When I used to go to a creative writing class, the tutor produced photos with our humble efforts written over them.

They looked good and you do see this on posters. I have Olympus to upload photos from my digi camera, Photoplus 6 to edit them and Photobucket.

I don't want a box with just text in it rather to be able to see the photo as background with writing over it.

Am only a novice...is it easy to do? Thanks for any advice...Liz

Oh, if only my kids were home they could tell you how to do it in PhotoPlus, I bet! I think it's something to do with layers, if that's any help!

I don't know Photoplus but do you have a button with an A on it?? If you do then you click on that and start writing or you can paste your text in. It gives you a text box which floats over the top of the picture.

You can also do it in Paint, which is part of Windows accessories. Just click on the "A" icon in the toolbox to create a text box. The text box is opaque by default, but you can make it transparent (so you can see the picture behind the text) by clicking on Image > Draw Opaque (to untick Draw Opaque).

Found the poem (called a pantoum) and here is the result of my village brook with it. Too many trees I think and need to experiment with font:

Just pressed A in Photoplus and put in the poem. Will experiment with paint...more new territory. Thanks everyone. I'm still polishing the poem...Liz

You need to fade the photo down a bit so that it doesn't overwelm the words.

Haven't used this program for ages so can't remember quite how you do it.

There is also a newer version, but that is only free for a 30-day trial: PhotoFiltre Studio

Liz, could you change the text of the poem to white? That might show up better.

Thanks all. Dave...yes I do have the original pic and text.

I made the font bigger and bold...let me have another go...don't know how to fade the picture. Now realise that where you point the cursor is where the text will go.

Roger...have now found the icon to click for different colours. The picture isn't good as so cluttered with self seeding trees. When I was tree warden, I did get the Council to cut down the sycamores seeded into the wall of the bridge.

Going off for a play to see what else I can do on my Photoplus. Thanks for your encouragement. Liz

You need to change the opacity/transparency of the background which you can do through the Layer Manager Tab from the View menu.. you make the number less than 100% until you like what you see.

Thanks Caroline...off for another play before bedtime Liz

UPDATE: Eyes are sore, going to have a go when less tired. Found the right layer management and altered background but there wasn't a confirm or okay button so didn't alter. Just clicked the red cross at top of that box to exit.

Will come back to this...thanks. Liz
