  • Can someone find him in 1901 please?

George LEVENS b. 1866, he was living in Fulham, Middlesex when he married Emma Elizabeth Dingley.

His occupation was a labourer. Father's name Edward Levens, coachman. He was a widower when he married Emma.

I have found a previous marriage for him in 1894 , & a Jane Levens died in 1895, followed by possibly their son George in 1896.

Try as I might I cannot find him after the 1881 census:

    RG11; Piece: 115; Folio: 37; Page: 68; Line: ; GSU roll: 1341026.

In 1901 Emma Levens is living alone with their son Henry William mistranscribed as Lucus !:

    RG13; Piece: 68; Folio: 58; Page: 55.

Can anyone please find George in 1891 & 1901 for me?

    Thanks

    Joanie

I don't know if you are interested in any other Levens (seeing as I can't see your bloke!), but there was an F G Levens (Pte 6152) "dangerously ill" in SA in the Boer War, reported in The Times 7th Nov 1900.

Also a George Levens aged 13 in 1888 who stole 2s6d from a shop in the Hornsey Road and was given 12 strokes with a birch rod (that made The Times as well!)

I have found it transcribed as Lucus, Livens, Lebens etc

              I don't suppose that helps! lol !

One of the marriage witnesses in 1898 was a Catherine Levens, but the only one I could find was possibly his mother, who died 12 years before!

Is she's the one who was born end 1881 St Geo Han Sq, - same place Mrs L died a few years later, could she be George's sister?

                          Right........

In 1891 Mary Carmichael is a widow, b Somerset, living with two sons, one Alfred, b 1884 St Geo Han Sq.

                          RG12; Piece: 78; Folio 209; Page 71;

In 1896 she marries Edward Leven:

                          Marriages Mar 1896
                          Carmichael Mary Ann Lambeth 1d 478 <<<<<<<<<<<<
                          CHINERY Annie Lambeth 1d 478
                          Levens Edward Lambeth 1d 478 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
                          Spencer Ernest Lambeth 1d 478

and in 1901 Edward thinks he's from Somerset and Mary thinks she's from St Geo Han Sq! Her son, Alfred is now Alfred C (for Carmichael?) Levens.

                          RG13; Piece: 88; Folio: 12; Page: 15

I realise this doesn't find the other Levens, but we are closing in on them! lol

Drat, I've just gone through all the Cat* and Kat* entries in Middlesex in 1891 with father Edward, only to find Katie Levens aged 9, living with her brothers and sister but no father, and no George! lol

Katie must be the Catherine on the marriage cert then!

Seems like Edward senior may have abandoned the kids then when he married his 2nd wife!

                              The plot thickens! :D

Looks like he was still a widower in 1891 Joan! But I agree that he seems to have abandoned his children!! I should think it's unlikely he and George are together, except that neither of them want to be found.

I should think there's some chance George was in the army in 1901 even if he isn't listed in The Times.......(as you have found his wife and son without him)
