  • wierd or what - marriages on Tuesday

Just checking on the actual day various ancestors got married. 3 of the 4 I've done so far married on a Tuesday.

How do you check the day, I expect there is a programme to do it for you

I recently acquired the marriage certificate of my mother's older sister and she got married on the 25th December 1937. I didn't know you could get married on Christmas Day!

          Edit to say:

I have just used that calculator and it was a Saturday!

I don't think you can now, but I have lots of Christmas Day marriages, so it was obviously a common occurence. It was the one day both bride and groom could guarantee not to be working I suppose, and when families might be getting together anyway.

Many churches waived the charge for marriage on Christmas Day - also at Easter.

Well Ive found a few for Saturday, Sunday, Monday, one for Wed, one for Thurs and no fewer than 7 for Tuesday.

                  Was Friday unlucky?

                    ooh

                    Monday for health,
                    Tuesday for wealth,
                    Wednesday best of all,
                    Thursday for losses,
                    Friday for crosses,
Saturday for no luck at all

Sadly I don't think any of the Tuesday marriages ended in wealth in my family!

Perhaps thats why the divorce rate is so high.
