This is wierd, isn't it??
Gilbert Louth. Only one birth reg, and that fits with the child listed as Gilbert South, apparently son of William and Ellen in Milton, Kent.
Meanwhile there's Robert Herbert Louth a married crew member on a ship and Ellen J South (actually Louth) also married and born Gravesend, no kids and living in Willesden Middlesex.
Do you have Gilbert's birth cert? maybe he was being looked after by extended family in 1901 and was put down as Son by mistake?
