Jerry White's "London in the 19th Century", Vintage paperback.

It is a great resource, with information about all aspects of London life over 100 years, including the buildings, railways and the implications these had on people made homeless; statistics on literacy, begging and much more. There are details about how many Londoners had London parents, the vast influx of women seeking domestic work etc.

All very readable and with many photographs.

      Hi Nell

      There's two I've found :

London in the Nineteenth Century: A Human Awful Wonder of God

      And

London in the Twentieth Century: A City and Its People

Which one do you mean, as both look interesting!
