Rose - have you seen this?

Birth registered at Ely Jun 1851
          Norman, William
          Vol 14 Pg 68

If you don't know who his parents are then worthwhile sending off for his birth cert ........

The marriage cert would hopefully tell you about his father:

There are only 15 Normans in Ely in 1851 so it shouldn't be too hard to find possible parents.

                Thanks for looking.

No idea of sibs and parents, that's what I was after primarily.

I hadn't seen the birth LL but then I hadn't looked on BMD, only IGI and there is nothing on there.

Merry, I had seen that marriage. I am fairly sure it is my couple. Sally married again after William died c1890 and her obit names her as 'Sally Anderson Smith'. Which poses the question of Sarah HUDSON the mother-in-law. The name HUDSON crops up again as William and Sally have a grandson called John William HUDSON Norman, sadly he was to perish in France in 1917.

These are OH's ancestors so I don't know whether to get any certs yet (when I have got many of my own to get lol). Could always ask for a RO lookup now I think of it

In 1861 Sally is Sally Anderson (13) and her parents are John and Sarah Anderson. Sarah (the mum) is only 39!

Same set up in 1851, though they are listed as Andson and the wife is mis-transcribed as 2 instead of 32!

I think Kirby (may really be Kirkby) was Sally's birth surname, as it looks as if her parents married after her birth (she was 3 in 1851)

                  Births Mar 1848
KIRKBY Sarah Anderson Ely 14 77

                  Oops, same Q!! lol

                  Marriages Mar 1848

Thanks Merry, that looks promising. I suspect that Sally's birth cert may have no father's name but John Anderson is a likely candidate with Anderson being her middle name. Will have to look through the deaths and see if he pegged it young and Sarah re-married a Mr Hudson.

                    Thanks again, super sleuth sarah!

There are John Anderson Deaths for
Dec 1848 and Jan 1851. I can't find Sarah Anderson marrying a Mr Hudson between 1848 and 1851. Hmmmm curiouser and curiouser.
