Viv and I went to the one in Stevenage. They took our photos and sent them a few weeks later.

They had many researchers with computers willing to help you with your research, but to be honest, they didn't have anything I couldn't access at home and I didn't really find much in my direct line, though they did find a couple of possible relatives I followed up later.

Very helpful though and no preaching.

I think if you are already familiar with LDS family history centres then you probably wouldn't get much out of the exhibitions.

A shame they did not emphasise the HUGE repository of written resources they have - possibly the largest and best collection of genealogical and historical records in the world.

Many people who routinely use the IGI seem unaware of this under-used resource, not just films of parish registers, but everything else under the sun - books, Wills, poor law records, histories and so on.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about - have a play under the LIBRARY tab on the familysearch site.

My research would have been at a standstill for the last ten years if it wasn't for my local LDS family history centre.

I went to one last year and had my photo taken but have never received the photo. Didnt know if it would be at the centre waiting for me next time I visit. There were lots of helpful people with access to ancestry but they were only the volunteers which run the centre so they werent able to help me any further. In fact one lady did say that I would probably know more than her anyway.
But it may be worth a visit if you dont usually go to any LDS centres.

My photo was hand-delivered, I think, but it took a few weeks to arrive.

Not been there since to find out. Wonder what happened to the photo. Sure it was way back about October time that I went to it.
