  • Help reading 1861 census place

Can someone please have a look at this family on the 1861 census:

    Class: RG9; Piece: 2616; Folio: 4; Page: 1; GSU roll: 543000

Emma Flintoff - I can't read her place of birth - does anyone know what it says?

    Thanks

It does look like Winterbourn or Winterbourne

There's a dot over what could be an 'i'

        Thanks Merry & Rachel.

I don't suppose you know if it is near Hanbrook/Hambrook do you? That's what it say her place of birth is on the 1851 census.

It's Hambrook and that's less than two miles south of Winterbourne

Thanks ! I am trying to keep up with my Jones's lol!

The oldest ones were born there then my g.g. grandma was born in Devon, then the last few born in Suffolk

Their father was a "coachman" do you know what they did ? I am assuming he may have driven the coaches or been helping on them I guess they got free rides lol !

Depends on whether he worked for the commercial coaches or for a private family as a chauffeur.

I have Domestic Coachman in my tree .... his 10 children were all born in Scotland but hardly any of them in the same place
