  • Ancestry trees - help!

    My brain hurts
Please can someone reassure me over this?

I seem to have THREE trees on Ancestry now - even though as far as I'm concerned I've only been adding to one!

I responded to an email tonight asking me to move my tree to this new fangled thing they are doing ( not quite sure what the difference is) and now I don't know if my main tree has been transferred :(

It looks like the two new trees are formed from my parents surnames individually, but my ORIGINAL tree was an amalgam of their names ie SOMMERVILLE / GILBERT.

These new trees only have a fraction of the info.

I'm now worried that my main tree will be lost!
I know I'm being thick but.......
    HELP

If you have your tree on your own computer it isnt lost.

Try deleting all of your trees on Ancestry.

I dont think they overwrite a tree, it just adds a new one whenever you update.

Delete all that is there and then upload a new one.

Thanks Margaret, but I have a few photo's on there, plus notes etc and I think these will be lost if I export and then delete!

I've just imported it again onto my laptop, just in case they delete it for me (as seems to be threatened!)

But you must have the photos on your own computer anyway, so you havent really lost anything, just need to put it back together.

Always have your tree with notes and photos on your computer and not just on a website.

Back up to flash drive or cd

            I'm just lazy I guess :o

It's just so annoying that they are messing us about this way.
I had a look on the message boards and everyone is very cross

Anyway, I took your advice and deleted the 'new' trees, so at least I know where I am now!

            Thanks Margaret

What did you have to move it to Alison? I haven't had an e-mail about mine.

Hi Gillian and just to say I'm even more confused than before!

This email was about changing to Ancestry Member Trees from "on-line' Trees BUT I was on this new system anyway........have been for ages!

Not entirely my fault......why did they send this and panic me in this way?

                      Hi Val

Did you get the same email?

I think two of the trees I had were old ones from when I first started on Ancestry in the 'on-line tree' format - I also tried deleting them - but they are still there
As usual I panicked thinking I was going to lose all my hard work

Not sure what is going on, but a lot of folk on there are quite upset.
I love the Ancestry member tree thing, but it's hardly 'new' as some people seem to think
