  • Brooch/medallion- possibly Duchess of York

Perhaps a long shot, but my mother in law has a brooch/medallion, not hallmarked, with an enamel image of a female who looks very much like Elizabeth Duchess of York (later the Queen). It is in a little cardboard box which was posted to someone during the reign of Edward VIII. No clear address but possibly sent from 'Mount Pleasant'

Does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

    Thanks for your thinking!!

Perhaps if you took it to a jeweller they might be able to give you an idea of its date/provenance. What is the enamel set in?

Wasn't Mount Pleasant one of the big London Post Offices/Sorting Offices?

Could it have been to do with some organisation Elizabeth Duchess of York was patron of, and so despatched from this London office?

Mount Pleasant still IS a big sorting office, a short walk from the now-closed Family Records Centre and the London Met. Archives. Nearest pub is the Pakenham Arms, run by OH's gt grandfather in the first world war and where OH's mother was born.
