    Trying to read the occupation of Hugh Jones in 1901, enumerator has written over it.

    RG13; Piece: 3389; Folio: 66; Page: 19

      I'm not sure if that's another word, or part word, between Dock and Pier or not! (not sure what it says in any case.......)

        "dock harbour master" is what it looks like to me, if thats the one

          Thats the one Julie, Dock something master - off to check other census, see if it narrows it down a bit

            Following Julie's opinion, I now think it says Dock Pier Master with "Harb" written over.

                I agree with Merry it is Dock Pier Master but it also looks like they have tried to sweeze in Harbour above dock and pier.

                    I've just had a look at my harbourmaster (River Tyne) in 1871 and 1881. There's no annotation in 1871 and the one in 1881 is too faint to read.
