  • Cheshire burials, please?

I am looking for the death of Mrs Green, first name unknown, in the area of Gawsworth or Macclesfield, Cheshire.

She was the wife of John/Jonathan Green and would have died between 1835-1841, aged not more than about 40 I would imagine - she left sons aged 8 and 5 on the 1841 census.

(I have picked this up and put it down many times over the years as I cannot find a single clue to this woman's name - the sons don't appear to have been baptised).

I would be very grateful if anyone can give me a few clues, thankyou!

Gawsworth St. James is on the NBI discs - but there is nothing there for a female adult Green.

Gawd, I forget about that site - am going in now, send a search party if I'm not back by Sunday!

Elaine - Thankyou - at least that means I didn't overlook it.

Do you know if John remarried? Only asking as I found him in the 1851 with a wife called Ann -

Yes, sorry, I have this man from 1841 onwards - he married Ann Beston/Bestow in 1840-something. He was a widower.

Ellen/Eleanor aged 20 who is with him in 1841 is his niece. She married at the same church on the same day as her Uncle John, so I think she was genuinely there in 1841 as a housekeeper.

It is the black hole from 1793 to 1841 I cannot fill. Two sons, Thomas and William, born 1833 and 1835ish, either Macclesfield or Gawsworth. No baptisms, no marriage for John - well, not in the area.

John's father died in 1817 and John inherited the family farm so I doubt he ever went out of area.

I have John's Will but no clues there about his first wife. I have toyed with the idea that Ann Beston was mother of the children, but if so I cannot see why she wasn't with them in 1841. (Ann is living with Thomas in 1861 and he describes her as "mother").

This is super annoying, because I have the Greens back to 1498 without a hitch, otherwise.

Eleanor seems to have married Josiah Fitton and then died a couple of years later (I expect you know that!).

I wondered if maybe John's first wife might have been a bit over 40 if her dau was 20-25 on the 1841 census?

                      HI OC

I had to ask after Googling found an old post here

Green in Gawsworth - B-G Forums sponsored by Parish Chest Ltd.

But the person who posted the request never came back to see his reply or thank the person who posted an answer.

That post is my useless brother!

He has lost interest in our research so I have been checking the work he did. As you can see, he got it wrong. Hannah Hibbert appeared on the scene after Mary died and she was not the mother of any of the children.

(I spent many happy YEARS tracing Hannah Hibbert, grrrr)

It's very odd - he has always been as obsessed as me, then overnight completely lost interest. How can you lose interest???? I try to reignite his enthusiasm from time to time with fascinating snippets, but nothing works.
