  • I know I should know

    Hi
Memory not back yet in full please can some one tell me is a church army house a work house or similar the reason I ask is one of my missing census is james wm farrington I have him in in the 1871 census in Stranton Durham as a something Draper ref Rg10 piece 4922 folio 23 p 39 unmarried he then appears in the 1901 census as widowed ref Rg13 peice 3618 folio 86 p 24 as a drapers assistant in Bolton.
I can not find his marriage or one that fits with in that time or him inbetween that time so I was thinking maybe he was in the army?

Church Army - Mission and Evangelism for Today

It's a subset of the Church of England.

Does the Church Army date back that far?
Could it have been a church alms house ie a house provided by charity

Update - I've just looked at the image -rather too many people barding there for my alms house theory to work, and it definitely says army so guess the church army is that old. Sort of C of E version of Salvation army or YMCA hostel
