Size of print on screen

I've just got a 19" LCD wide screen monitor but the appearance of the print on the screen is so small, it was larger on the old 15" screen.

Computer is also new with Vista Home premium.

What, if anything can I do to make the print larger please?

Hold down Control key and click on + (plus sign) to make text bigger, click on - (minus sign) to make it smaller.
Does that work?

There is also a way of doing it with the mouse - but can never remember how! - I find the + and - keys easier!
