Found an obit yesterday for my 4 x great grandfather George Alfred Hodson.
died 27 June 1869
In it it states that his funeral was attended by his sister Ellen Hodson, who was also present at his death.
That actually solved a problem as on the 1841 census where he's still living with his father there is a Helen Hodson born c1816 who I'd not successfully been able to place.
All the Hodson's were theatricals, so actors, singers, comedians etc.
George's generation were born Ireland (mostly Dublin) - the family moved to England in the late 1830s following a bankruptcy.
1871 there is an Ellen Hodson, born 1822 Dublin - occupation; Musical.
Lovely - that fits nicely. Can't find her in 1851 or 1861 though.
BIG BUT..... in 1871 she is living with Mayland family.
head WIlliam Mayland, photographer
Wife Lucy Mayland born Dublin c1834
Ellen's relationship is given as sister in law (to William). So Lucy Mayland should be Lucy Hodson.
That's the first I've heard of Lucy and she should be on 1841 with the family as she'd only have been 6!!
My heads about to explode.
I'm gonna have a cuppa and some toast, but if anyone can untangle me or get me pointed in the right direction I'd be very grateful.
