  • Any ideas.....Yorkshire.

I'm not sure where to start here.

I have ggg grandfather George Naylor marrying Elizabeth Eyre 1795 in Birstall, Yorkshire.

Two children, George born 1796 and Elizabeth 1797.
They were baptised Congregational Church, Cleckheaton, Yorkshire.

Elizabeth Naylor married Myles Ariel St Johns, Wakefield, 1815.

George, senior was dead by 1815.

His wife died 1829 in Bristol. On her death notice it says she is the widow of George Naylor of Marsh House near Wakefield.

I need to know what churches I'd be best looking at to get further back.

Seeing as the children were baptised Congregational, I'm thinking the parents would have been as well.

    Any ideas?

I'm not familiar with the area, but suggest you start by going to the LDS and putting Wakefield into the place names search. (Library tab)

This will bring up a list of church records, which should give you somewhere to start, at least.

I should have a look at Genuki:

GENUKI: West Riding of Yorkshire Index

If they were Congregational, you might find something in the non-parochial BMDs:

BMD Registers: The Official Non-Parochial BMDs Service

          Yes thanks, Wendy.

That's the Elizabeth Naylor I have the death notice for. Her husband George had died before the daughter, Elizabeth's (Ariel) marriage.

For info regarding George Naylors death maybe the Wakefield History Society can help you out.

As for info regarding the marriage of George to Elizabeth Eyre if you are wanting possible details on their respective parents you could try contacting Dewsbury Library

A to Z - Kirklees Council service details - Dewsbury Library

The records might even be at Huddersfield Library and their website is below
