It keeps taking over my Favourites programme, I have tried ADD/REMOVAL but that does not remove it.

Right... I did the same because they were driving me crazy!
I have Vista on my laptop so it may be slightly different if you have XP...
But I clicked on 'organise favourites', highlighted the main msn folder and clicked delete. then had to agree to the deleting and clicked close.
Worked fine for me that way so not sure why it wouldn't work the same for you
