  • Naval occupation.

Thanks to Jean. I've just remembered something (takes a lot sometimes) LOL.

Anyone know what a "tindal" is?

I've got one on board a ship in 1881. Apparently it's a Royal Navy Ship, but I can't find it anywhere.

Seems to be more of a East India trading ship.

Oh gawd we had this one a long time ago on GR. Blowed if I can remember now. Ive got a feeling it may be something to do with the boilers though.

              There's a 1913 definition here

It also has the extremely handy appendices

                Weights and measures
                The Greek and Russian Alphabet
Principal Monetary Units of the World

All about a hundred years out of date.

(No, no, I am NOT 110 years old - it wasn't a new dictionary when I got it)

                    Thank you OC and Jackie.

Now I'm going to waste the day trying to find a little about him. Anyone done any research in Zanzibar???

                      *snorts*

No thanks, having my own unique and individual problems with Huddersfield, so I won't be much use in Zanzibar!
