Interesting death registration

I have just been looking at a death certificate on which the wife, aged 37, died of consumption on 12 June 1839.

Her husband didn't get round to registering the death until 3 August 1839 I wonder what was going on in the meantime??

I guess its just because it is so early and the 'system' was new. Poor guy probably didn't know he had to do it.

As you point out, this was just at the start date of civil registration.

Perhaps he was prompted to do it by the visiting registrar, all new and full of bustling importance and looking desperately for something to do.
