    Found OH's ggrandmother listed as a Probationer living in a temporary home for women in 1881

    RG11/3091.

    what would she have been doing???
    Could one of you very smart people help a not so bright on old terms type of lady...lol

    Nurse? I think they started as probationers - any clues in the rest of the household?

      GENUKI: Leamington Priors, Warwickshire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868
      names two hospitals in Leamington Priors - presumably situated to take advantage of the spa waters. Perhaps the probationers were training at one of these?

        probationers are somebody who is learning and are on a probation to see if they are good enough to do the job.

          okay now that all makes sense.......lol. Rumour was that Annie was a nurse had myself convinced it was an old family tale but looks now like I put another foot in my mouth. lol.
