Might it have been a 21st birthday photograph ?
I'm not good with ages, but assume it was taken for a special occasion

(didn't anyone have spots in those days ?)

Am I right in thinking 1920's for hairstyle?

Thanks Rachel - that's really useful. So do we think it could well be a lady who was born in 1896? It's looking likely to me - in which case I'm sure it must be my great aunt.

The photo is a studio portrait which means any blemishes would have been air brushed out..:D, The only reservations I have is that g.aunty would be 30 in 1926 and the sitter looks a bit young?

OK, I agree, she does look a bit too young to be my great aunt. I've now got another possibility - my aunt who was born in 1908. She'd have been 21 in 1929 - does that seem more feasible?
