  • Firefox and searches

Since a recent Firefox update, I have to keep refreshing the page if I click on "back" to amend the search terms and try to search again.
This happens on Ancestry, and on here when searching the gedcom database. It makes it very slow if, for example, I am trying to search for a series of siblings in a village and only want to amend forenames and dobs.

Can anybody please tell me if there is a setting I can alter to fix the problem?

Don't have that problem Gillian. Dave doesn't know of anything to help either I'm afraid.

If you are searching the gedcoms on here, you don't need to "go back", as the search boxes are always at the top.

Wow - that was quick again Wendy! Thanks.

I was only testing it on here to see if it was the same as Ancestry.

I've always been able to go back and alter search criteria on Ancestry and re-search without refreshing, and I still can if I use IE, that's why I'm assuming it must have been something to do with a firefox update. The only other thing that's been updated lately is AVG.

I've just tried Ancestry, and I'm OK. No problems there.

How odd Wendy! I wonder what on earth is different on my PC then?

There's an error message that I occasionally get when using the back button on IE which says, "Warning: Page has Expired The page you requested was created using information you submitted in a form. This page is no longer available. As a security precaution, Internet Explorer does not automatically resubmit your information for you.

To resubmit your information and view this Web page, click the Refresh button."

(I always get it if I select a county on UKBMD and click the County button, click on one of the links for that county and then use the back button to try to get back to the list of links, but apart from that it's usually if it's a long time since I was on the page that I'm trying to get back to)

Would it be something similar that is happening in Firefox?

I'm not getting any kind of warning or advisory message Kate and it doesn't seem to make any difference if I am going back after a long or a short interval.

What's irritating is that I keep forgetting that it's not going to search and so sit there waiting in vain for the results to come up!

As I haven't installed anything new, or changed any settings, I don't understand why the problem has occurred for me, but not for Wendy or Dave above.
