  • 1891 / 1901 census help needed

    working backwards:

Sydney Jarvis, born 1904 Bethnal Green
Parents William Carey Jarvis and Patty Thompson

Found marriage for William & Patty - 1891 2nd quarter Islington

Birth certificate for Sydney gives father's occupation as Wheelwright.

Have found a possible birth for William Carey Jarvis, 1863 Burton upon Trent.

Have also found a William Carey Jarvis in the 1881 census, RG11/2765/121/22 - occupation Wheelwright Apprentice. Parents shown as William and Hannah.

Can anyone see William Carey Jarvis in the 1891 or 1901 census. Have found the 1891 census for his parents and he is not with them.

    Thanks!
    Elaine

Just to let you know I've found diddly squat! Have tried just under Jarvis or all Williams born staffs within dates or carey as 1st/surname and got nothing so far.

His marriage 2nd q of 1891 strongly suggests he should be in Islington or thereabouts in 1891 census, doesn' it.

Have just found the 1901 census for Hannah & William Jarvis (William Carey's parents)

                RG13; Piece: 2645; Folio: 80; Page: 21.

                - and living with them is a grandson Maurice Jarvis, born c1892 Islington - so possibly son of William Carey Jarvis & Patty Thompson. Wonder where the parents are!

Why does this have to be so difficult. Trying to do this for a friend - he has given me a lovely pile of birth, marriage and death certificates right back to 1903. :(

                *^%!#"@*

                  HI Elaine

Have you checked out the address from Sidney birth cert to see if the family are there?

I found a slight possible but wrong wifes name Bessie bn 1866 Suffolk

                  1901

Wendy - can I award you the biggest gold star I can find!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! That matches nicely - address for Sydney's birth was 60 Allas Road.

Sorry, I've run out of inspiration. I guess if you had an address from the marriage cert it might help.

Thanks Little Nell and Jess for your help. WendyP solved it with the 1901 census which is the same address as the birth certificate for Sydney in 1903.
Mother obviously not being helpful in deciding to change her name from Patty to Bessy for the census! :(

Umm - no he hasn't but I was just so excited when you found the 1901 census, which ties in nicely with the one I found in 1881!

So - still needed on 1891!
