  • John Flemington BARROW

I'm trying to find a marriage entry for John Flemington BARROW. I've tried FreeBMD but no luck there so I wondered if anyone could find him on Ancestry for me please?

Any help would be greatly appreciated - I have his birth in Havant RD and his Tombstone Inscription from Hayling Island, Hants.

    Kind Regards
    Gertie

Gertie, do you know for sure that he was married, and if so, do you know his wife's name, please?

If he was born 1890s then his marriage was probably after Freebmd coverage ends at the moment, so it would be a question of trawling through the marriage indexes for each quarter of each year, unless you have an idea of any children he had or other clues.

              John Flemington BARROW

He was born in 1894 and died in1981 - I'm not absolutely certain that he married, there is no mention of a wife on the tombstone.
I have found children born (on FreeBMD) born to a BARROW whose maiden name was WARD but can't find a marriage on there that corresponds.

I have him on the 1901 census with his parents Charles Flemington BARROW and Fanny (Nee SHERMAN).

All the later BARROW family came from Hayling Island but it's proving difficult to fit them together into families!!!

The latest children I have with a family are Kate and Willie who were children of Oliver BARROW and Kate RATLEY - aged 6 and 7 in 1901. Oliver was also the son of Charles and Fanny.

Another son of Charles and Fanny was Theodore who married Alice STRIDE in 1897 - no children on the 1901 census.

              Regards,
              Gertie

                Gertie,

do you have his death cert? this should give a possible family member that registered the death?

                    DEATH REF

                    John Flemington Barrow.
                    sept Q 1981.
                    dob. 24 oct 1894.
                    district: Portsmouth.
                    vol: 20.
                    page: 0640.

If the dob tallies exactly with what you know, then maybe a wife/son/daughter registered the death. would be worthwhile to get the cert?

Thanks for that Julie - that's him!
There might be some more information about him in the burial registers as well so a visit to the Records Office might help me too.

                      Regards,
                      Gertie

The burial register will probably just give his age at death (which you know) and date of burial, as well as a vague address. Bear in mind that he might have been buried in a cemetery rather than a churchyard, or even have been cremated.

His death cert would give you his occupation and last address as well as where he died and what he died of.

sorry, if you have his tombstone inscription you already know where he is buried!
