    please can anyone read Elizabeth Graves Occupation on Rg9 /3963 page 29

    She is working in a boys school- Windermere College

    born 1844 - it looks to me like Retition Made? But don't know what that would be ?

        Yes it could be , thank you... only why would they spell "House maid" above correct ? Then spell it "made? "

          I wondered whether the first word was kitchen - but don't really think so

          The first letter of the second word looks rather like the "H" in "housemaid" further up the page.

          Is there a comma between the two words?

          Sorry, not much help!

            It's very badly written but I think it is meant to be kitchen maid. I see there are two girls doing this job, which sounds about right. The women above are housemaids who were above kitchen maids in status (as well as in the actual building, lol).

                My gt gt aunt Ellen is in a very badly written 1881 census as kitchen maid and "head" of the household in a posh address in London. I can only assume the owners were away!
