  • Help to find Sinclairs in 1901 census please

Good morning. Just typing up this bit of my Cardiff/Somerset family who went to Portishead. Can't find after 1891. Alexander's family were in Cardiff. This is what I have:

BMD Birth Index: ALEXANDER SINCLAIR 9/1846 Bridgwater, Somerset
BMD Marriage Index: to Harriett Blackmore 1873 Oct q Cardiff

1891 Census: Alexander Sinclair b1848 Bridgwater - Head. Engine Driver
    Spouse: Harriet b1848 Bristol
    Daughter: Winifred b1881 Portishead Scholar
Address: New Town Civil/ecc. par: Portishead Parliam. Bor: Nth Somerset.
Reg district: Bedminster Sub-reg district: St George. ED, institution: 7

1881 Census: Alexander Sinclair b1847 Cardiff Head - Engine Driver (Railway)
    Spouse: Harriett b1849
    Daughter: Winifred b1877
Address: 18 New Town Civil par: Portishead, Somerset
Reg district: Bedminster Sub-reg district: St George ED, institution: 8
Family not found in 1901 census. Dau, Winifred, not in Marriage Index.
Can’t find them in death index. Did they emigrate?

BMD Birth Index: Harriet Blackmore 1848 Apr q Taunton, Devon, Som.

Winifred Sinclair b1877 does not appear on BMD or on IGI.

Possible Link: BMD Birth Index: Alexander M Sinclair 12/1915 Cardiff
    Mo Maiden Name: Leshan.

No rush but anyone else able to find them? Many thanks. Liz

Hi Liz, I'm sorry I can't help with look ups at the moment, family here, but I wondered if you have had a look at my friends website.
He has traced his roots back to William the conquerer. Other names in his tree are Sydenham, Warre, Edgcombe, Pollard. They go from Somerset into Devon & I'm sure you know that the Devon/ Somerset reference on the census is a transcriber error!

    THE BLACKMORE FAMILY

Even if you're not linked, Roy may have picked up some useful info for you aong the way.

Ooh, you brilliant people! Sinclair Snr was transcribed as La Clair in a census, I should have known.

Would anyone be able to e mail me the census image and transcription? Will mail you my e mail add if you let me know. Many thanks again. What a wonderful site this is. Liz
