  • At HM's Pleasure.....

I am researhing for a friend who had an ancestor who spent time at the above in Kirkdale, Liverpool in 1891. Is there any way that I can find out what his offence was?

The prison registers might have this information in is admissions entry. Some prison registers are in county records offices and some have been indexed.

Petty crimes would be heard at quarter sessions which again are in records offices. More serious offences would be sent to trial at the assizes and the records for them are at The National Archives in Kew.

You might be lucky and find a "hit" if the ancestor had a less common name, on a2a website.

      Hi

Very doubtful that you will find the crime commited online, it is a trip to the archives.
