The "brae" bit sounds plausible, Manbrae, Hanbrae?

If memory serves does brae not mean bog or marsh?

I can say that there is now't with brae in the name nowadays for the area.

Shame you can't check the district description from the Scotland 1901 in the same way you can the England Census. Finding an adjacent street or farm has pointed me in the right direction more than once.

A brae is a rise, hill or similar. There's records of a Dam Brae in Musselburgh. There's also Pinkie Braes etc

oh Highland Ranger thank you!!! I think that it may well be Dam Brae.....

I'm not able to post the image as I only took notes of it but next time i'm over in edinburgh I'll look it up again and see if what i think was a W could have been a D!!

Thanks for helping out peeps xxx
