Here's a place to post your family history baby pictures!!!

This is the most frustrating picture in my collection :( I feel as if I know the lady as well as my own mother, I have looked at it so often. Her face is really familiar, but I don't know who she is.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m13/merry_monty_montgomery/Family%20History/Coupleandbaby.jpg

Anyway, I presume the man is her husband and the cutie is their child :)

If we all stare hard, together, could we come up with some names?

Any ideas on date?

Was there a time that hairstyle (the baby's) was fashionable?! lol

I love that baby, but I still think they are three generations, the man and woman just have similar smiles. Reckon junior is a wee boy, and that sash would have been blue....;)

The sleeving on the female would indicate a date line of between 1893 and 1897 whilst the photographer, Ebenezer Pannell, traded from 49 St Georges Road Brighton between the years of 1889 and 1905.

Georgette.....She is the spit of my great-grandmother and her children......I think maybe she is one of my g-granny's first cousins.

Any opinions on the ages of mum and graddad?

Why (btw) did my Bristol and Somerset rellies all have their photos taken in Brighton? Holidays??

That hair was obviously popular for quite a few years!

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m13/merry_monty_montgomery/Family%20History/HuntFamily.jpg

These two photos are a bit of a conundrum! The one on the right is my registrar/genealgist cousin, Frederick Charles Hunt. He has put the date on the back of the photo, "about 1871" which would make him about 2 or 2½ years of age.

The left photo is Frederick's mother with a child and the photo has been taken in the same studio. However, I'm fairly certain it's not the same child, yet he/she (I think this one is a girl) looks about the same age. I can only assume the photographer didn't change his "set" for a few years, as Frederick's next sibling was almost three years older than him :)

Merry, I am convincinced that these 2 photos are the same child and taken on the same day with the same back drop. I can't imagine that two children would have an identical hair cut and the curtain also draped identically. i think one is with coat on and one coat off, even the chair is identically placed

Merry Monty Montgomery
18-02-08, 19:25
I hadn't really studied the background. You are right!!

Coat on and coat off......seems reasonable! He looks a lot healthier in the photo with his mum though. Maybe he had a slap up meal between shots? lol

Norfolk Marsh Gal
18-02-08, 19:33
He does look a bit chubbier in the first photo, but he is also holding the same little stick in both photos and has the same little socks and shoes, I would think it too much of a coincidence for both photos to be so alike

Oh, Wow Bev :), did they grow up looking the same?

This young man must have had a shower after they did his hair! pmsl

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m13/merry_monty_montgomery/Family%20History/MartynKennard.jpg

He isn't even a relative, and I spent ages trying to fit him into the tree :( He is Martyn Thomas Kennard b 1859 and it turned out his father worked with my great-great uncle, designing the Crumlin Viaduct in Monmouthshire (now sadly taken down).

So not all our (unknown) photos are relatives......something I think we should all bear in mind when trying to identify unnamed pictures!

Was wondering about this Rachel.........could there have been a possibility that it was rescued from a house fire, as these look like sooty fingerprints?

Only mention it as I have several photos from mums side, which were rescued from a house fire, with the exact same sooty prints all over them.........all able to be restored thankfully, except for those which were affected by the heat.

Partially, Merry....from the nose up, he was Daddy's boy....but below the noseline, he was all Mummy's Little Darlin'

On the subject of family resemblances, Walters 1,II,III & IV have successfully carried on the family genes...altho' Walter III, reputedly a mean-minded accountant, does not have the same open-handed appearance of his grandfather (who buried four wives) ,his father, or his own son.

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n74/macbev/Family%20Pics/4WalterHooks.jpg

I don't have many hats in my collection, but my daddy and his twin sported a pair of mean fur coats.

Not as far as I know ....
There's never been mention of a fire .... and the back of the pic is not in bad condition
I think finger prints do tend to show up more when a pic has been scanned ... but will investigate :)

It was just a passing thought Rachel, as I said, I have quite a few fire damaged photos with the very same type of sooty looking finger and thumb prints. Of course we know they were rescued from a house fire, as gran lost a baby to it due to the shock.
Also, those of ours which were marked on the front were fine on the back too!

They have cleaned up very well though. And like you say, marks like that could be as the result of any number of things I imagine.

This is my Nan who was born in Oct 1915. Looks like she's wearing walking shoes so would date the photo to early 1917? All the photos I have of her, through childhood to wedding - she's not smiling on any of them
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w96/helenmorrall/MarjoireAnderson.jpg

This is her son, Peter, my Mum's brother. The date on the back is Oct 1938, so he would have been 6 months old - he died 2 weeks before his 1st birthday.
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w96/helenmorrall/PeterClark.jpg

And this is my mum - she was born in 1940, so she would be about 18 montshs on this. That's her gran in the background. Mother of the Nan in the 1st picture.

I think I followed the trend for not having any hair until I was about 2 as well. Will have to find one of mine.:)

Oh, lord - have just realised how old 'gran' in the last picture is. Go on take a guess.
