  • Help - India 1850's

Can anyone suggest why a Vet would have been in India in the 1850's?

Mynot Titchmarsh was in India in 1850 (as his 2nd daughter was born Bellary,Tamil Nadu, India, according to the IGI) and he died back home in Essex in 1858.

I have not been able to find the family in 1851 so I assume they are in India or travelling. but in 1861 his 2 older children are living with their maternal grandmother (no trace of mother, or 2nd Daughter)

I have had a look at all the Wiki links to India but nothing hugely useful. I don't think he was in the military but I suppose its possible

    Any ideas? Thanks

Vikki, my only idea is that he may indeed have been attached to the army, they would need vets for the horses.

Thanks Pat. in your experience would they be part of the military or civilians working with them?
