  • Finding unknown father?

My GGGrandfather was born in 1850, 15 months after his 'father' died in 1849. His mother isn't living with anyone other than her children in 1851.

Is there any way I can find out who his father was?

She also had twin boys in 1855. I would like to know who their father was too.

I don't suppose he has an unusual middle name that might be a clue? Or first name / middle name combination?

          Nope.
          There is a boarder in 1871, but he's only 24 and she's 51!

            A baptism might elaborate, lol.

Otherwise you could look for a maintenance order for the child, in the local Magistrate's court. These, if they still exist, will be in the relevant county records office.

                  Well, maybe 'toy-boys' aren't such a modern invention! ;)

Ok, I am asking the obvious question, and you meant us to assume you'd done that, but I take it you have the birth certs?

I have Williams. Father's name is blank.

I don't have the other two as I can't afford them yet :o

Thought you probably had, just checking, it's the suggestions others have made then. Good luck. Must admit I'm a complete line short as my mother's birth cert has no father named on it, so one day I've got to chase those same suggestions..
