  • Any ideas what happened to Ann?

Birth ref: Ann Purvey 1860 Mar Northleach Volume: 6a Page: 355

    IGI
ANN PURVEY Christening: 08 APR 1860 Chedworth, Gloucester,
Father: JOHN PURVEY Mother: ELIZABETH Batch No.: C032082

    1861 RG9 1787/5 p. 4
    Chedworth
John Purvey age 28 on 1861 census, Chelsea pensioner, blind in right eye.
    Elizabeth wife
    William, 5 Chedworth
    Edna J[ane] 3 Chedworth
    Ann 1 daur b. Chedworth
William Emmes lodger 82 labourer Bourton on the Water
Jane Emmes 68 Chedworth [Elizabeth's parents]

Not with family in 1871. No death on Freebmd unless this is an error:
Ann Pumfrey 1862 Jun Northleach Gloucestershire
BUT there is an Ann Pumfrey in Northleach reg district on 1861 census, wife of Thomas, but she is still alive in 1871.

I'm curious because Ann's father was married 3 times and produced 15 children. 5 of them died in childhood or early adult hood. I've sent for a couple of death certs, wondering if there was some genetic problem.

Hi have you seen this Annie Purvey, on the 1881 census born abt 1861 in Northleach Glous, she is living in Islington, London as a domestic servant Cook.
    Class RG11, Piece 247, Folio 54, page 55.

No, I haven't - off to look now. (why didn't I think of Annie as variant?)

I was looking for her born in Chedworth. Northleach is the reg district and also the name of a nearby village.

Now I just need to know where she was 1871, 1891 and 1901!

        Thanks again, Gwen!

Been out so only just seen your reply if this is your Ann may be she married in London and therefore will be on the later census with her married name. I did not have time to look.

thanks. I did find a marriage in Wolverhampton, but not her, sadly. Her big brother has also disappeared.

Thank you again for your help - and for tramping round Coggeshall looking for my Smoothy lot.

Thanks anyway. On the good side, I have found Ann & William's brother George's attestation papers which give his wife's name, his marriage date and names and birthdates of children.

I assume you have seen these census for Willliam 1871 RG10, Piece, 2651, Folio 19, Page 5, he is shown as stepson and name for the family is Curvey. In 1881 shown as lodger, RG11, Piece, 2560, Folio 17, Page 6. I did see a poss for 1901 but the year of birth was a bit out. Sorry if you have already seen these.

Thank you again. Yes, I have got 1871 and 1881 for William, thanks. Another branch of the family was mistranscribed as Curvey in 1901, so its not uncommon (though till I found it I would have thought unlikely, lol) to mistake P for C.

                    Thanks again.
