  • scottish census index help needed please

Hi I'm looking for a Hugh Crumey born 1831,
I know he marries a Catherine in 1863 in Dumbarton.

I haven't got ancestry but I've managed to have a play on their free search
and hes down as Crumay in 1871 and Crombie in 1881.
    Haven't tried 1891 and 1901.

I've trying to find out where he's born and if he appears in Dumbarton before 1871 with a sister Mary (married name after 1847 McDonald)

My rabble are about to return from swimming, guides and scouts so apologies if I can't get back on the computer.

    Thank you

    Teresa

Also in 1871 it says born in Ireland.

      62 High Street, Dumbarton

      Thing is it says

      There's Hugh 40
      Catherine 30
      Mary 11 born Glasgow
      John 6 born Dumbarton
      Catherine 5
      Margary 2
      Bridget 9months

Now if they married in 1863 - would Mary have the same surname?

I would think your best bet is going to be Scotland's People - buy some credits and download the image of that Dumbarton marriage if you haven't already, because it will tell you lots of info including the names of their parents.

Thank you for having a look for Hugh Crummy/ Crombie for me I'll have to look at the image on SP see if it can solve the spelling of the surname.
