  • Missing Dettmer family in 1841

Desperately trying to get back on my Dettmer family to tie them in with other Dettmers in the St. Pancras/Marylebone areas of London in early 1800s.

Can you help to find this family in 1841?

Henry William Dettmer b c1801 Marylebone, wife Ann
    Children:
Catherine Dettmer c1820 (source 1851 census)
    Nathaniel Frederick Dettmer c1828 (IGI)
    George Ephraim Dettmer c1829 (IGI)
    Richard Henry Dettmer c1829 (IGI)
    Edwin Augustus Dettmer c1831 (IGI)
Joseph William Dettmer c 1833 (IGI)
    James John Dettmer c1836 (IGI)

    1851 census
    HO107; Piece: 1496; Folio: 969; Page: 1
Henry aged 50 – widower - Pianoforte string maker
    Joseph aged 18
    James aged 13
    Catherine aged 30
    - name has been mistranscribed as De Honer / De Hiner

I have found a death for Ann Dettmer in March 1839 Kensington 3, 221, which I think is probably mine (another one to order!)

    Thanks!
    Elaine

If you can't find them, I don't hold out much hope, but I will have a look.

All children apart from Catherine christened in Paddington - any idea which parish Paddington would come under on the 1841 census?

Can't find James or Henry. I got a bit excited when I found a George Dester b 1829 living in Marylebone, parents Mr Dester (!) and Ann, but it doesn't look like the right family. Mr D is a colour grinder.

Haven't got anywhere by putting Paddington into the keywords.

This is the list of Middlesex enumeration districts on Ancestry:
          1841 England Census - Ancestry.co.uk

I'm wondering if it was Kensington - it has 2 subdistricts, Brompton & Kensington.

Nathaniel should be somewhere in 1841 - he died in 1901, and I have found a possible death for Richard in 1891.

Really trying to get into this family as I have just found a Dettmer contact. :(
I downloaded two Dettmer wills in the hope that they might shed some light on to the family but they haven't helped.

              Elaine - bad news!

              1841 census returns
Piece HO107/680 covering Paddington is missing.

I can only offer virtual tea and genuine sympathy. I have husband's ancestors missing in 1841 and 1861 as the relevant pages are missing - and in both cases I need the information to solve problems!!

                %&·"&%!%$*$"

                Thanks for that!

Oh well - I´ll order the Ann Dettmer death certificate to see if she is mine.

You know, when I tried Paddington in keyword and got nothing I thought I vaguely remembered some problem with this.

Hope the death cert is the right one and that it gives some further clues. Paddington directories etc are at the Westminster Archives. Not much use to you in Spain, but I do go there occasionally to do research on husband's family. I'll let you know when I next plan to go in case I can do anything for you.

Thanks Little Nell - I might well take you up on your offer.
