  • "Officer from Wales"

I have come across a mini tree compiled by the Rev Charles Kerry c1833, which contains some of my Kerry family from Smalley Derbyshire, at the top of this tree it says,

There is a tradition in the family that the first of the Kerrys of Smalley was an "Officer from Wales"

Would anyone have any idea what this means please?

I have seen the Smalley site.

Sounds like an Army officer. What date are we talking about? Clearly well before 1833! There weren't Police officers at this time. I suppose there could have been customs officers.

Thank you for your reply Anne, the dates for the Kerrys on this mini tree go from 1580 to 1835.
