  • Ancestry look up please - Canada/US

Catherine Tilton nee Stewart was deserted by her husband some time after her 1888 marriage in London, Ontario, Canada. The only record I have is a note from a family member saying, "separated from wife. Last seen heading East on a boat". I've just found this intriguing reference but I don't have an Ancestry Worldwide subscription to look it up. Could anybody tell me please what the entry says? I'm hoping it refers to William S Tilton born Cornwall, Ontario 1857.

Have you tried the new beta test site from the LDS Paul?

It has some 1900 US census on it, you have to register, but it is looking quite promising at the moment

Thanks for that. And I've just found that the person in my question was born 1911 so it can't be my William S Tilton.

I've had a look on Ancestry at all the likely records that came up with his name. None of them had a name, d.o.b. and birthplace that came anywhere near.

As she was barely 16 and he was 27 at the time I'm guessing this was a 'shotgun wedding'. Catherine was a home child sent to live in Canada. If that was the case I should be looking for a child born around 1888 in Ontario called Tilton with a mother's maiden name Stewart.

There are 4 in the 1911 Census of Canada
There are 3 in the 1901 Census of Canada

There are 2 in the Canadian Soldiers of World War I, 1914-1918

There are 2 in the Detroit Border Crossings and Passenger and Crew Lists, 1905-1957
There is one in the Border Crossings: From Canada to U.S., 1895-1956

Could I trouble someone to check those out please?
