  • Could i have your oppinion.....Please

    Hi ,

I have a marriage of; Annie Campbell sharp 1934 glasgow Scotland.

But when I looked for her birth and death she is listed as : Annie Andrewina Sharp b 1911 Fife,..... Annie Andrewina Brownlie d1982 Buteshire.

Why is the Campbell in the Marriage cert?

    Regards

    Lynne

Lynne - I don't know how common it was, but at least two of my Scots gave a middle name at marriage which never appeared on the birth cert. In both cases it was a gt or gt gt grandmother's maiden name.

Don't know if it helps but I have a similar one from Northumberland

John Robson on birth cert, John Hymers Robson on marriage cert and 3 out of 10 baptisms for his children (strangely enough - not on his son Hymers), and John Robson on the death cert

His grandmothers mn was Hindmarch, and I believe Hymers was the local pronunciation of that

There's a school called Hymers College in Hull. My father went there and much good it did him - not. Presumably named after a luminary of that name.
