Sarah, just to check about the Flatts - those two christening entries are both for the same person, aren't they?

Just wanted to say well done on winning, hope you have as much luck as me.

I have just read through your posts but for some reason my brain isn't processing just yet, I'll make a cupper and be back to have another look

Do you think the POB for James Horrell should be Shobrooke?

        GENUKI/Devon: Shobrooke - Genealogy

Do you have an occupation for James?

The problem with the IGI (as I just found) was that the online baptisms for Shobrooke are only between 1538 and 1799, so unlikely to find James :(

What a shame it's not 'extracted'

I know, but don't discount it yet, some submissions are correct, we just need to find some other source to back it up

Got to take Emily to nursery in a minute, but I will be back

                    Horwell

I wouldn't attach James to John and Frances just yet - Although it is possible that he was illigitamate (sp) and they married a few years later but then he would have been baptised Pope.

If only there was someone listed on the Wiki for RO look-ups

I think so, my nan (who was 69 at the time) went to a records office and with a little help used a fiche reader, So I don't see why not

If you give them a rough date but exact location, the staff should be able to hep

Me again - sorry I know I keep jumping between the2 families

But have you seen this in 1861

John Flatt age 77 (1784) Swilland Suffolk (could be Linstead) Gardener
Sarah Flatt age 75 (1786) Swilland Suffolk
There are other Flatts listed born in Norfolk

                          Flatt

They are the same couple (90% sure), I try not to put too much emphasis on occupation for those over 60.

Just need to find William in 1851 to make sure he is not with another Sarah or John

But it would tie in your Harriet, as she gives her POB as Wimpole Suffolk in 1861 (same as Sarah in 1851)

Harriet - sorry getting confused myself - there is a Harriet ( i think) Flatt in Norfolk, POB Wimpole Suffolk

Give me 15 mins and I'll be back to explain -- Sorry

Sorry a bit longer then 15 mins, got my tea now

So walking distance back then - 3 miles was not very far at all

I was looking at a list of Suffolk stays on the 1861 census for Norfolk and saw Harriet Flatt RG9; Piece: 1217; Folio: 198; Page: 18 - I notied her purley becasue of the Walpole link, she was born 1811 (just after the marriage of Sarah and John in 1810, if the submission is to be belived)

So possibly another daughter to John and Sarah. Still doesn't help with the other, but it a new name to play with.

Ok, The plot thickens (Edit - Snap)

In 1861 Harriet is unmarried, can't find Harriet in 1871 but in 1881 and 1891 up she pops as mother to Thomas Flatt age 38 (48) born Norwich, Book binder (maybe same Thomas with John and Sarah in 51 and 61

It also shes her as a widow in 1881 and single again in 1891 - could Thomas have been illigitamate and raised by her parents?
