  • Exporting a Family Group Sheet?

    I have FTM.

I want to export a family group sheet to send to someone else.

I have clicked on the export and supposedly saved it to PDF, but after I have saved it there is nothing there.

I tried to save it to desktop.

    What I am doing wrong?

Have just tried it Magaret and it is a fairly basic procedure so cannot understand why your FTM program is not behaving itself.

    Select Family Group Sheet
Go to FILE, click on EXPORT FAMILY GROUP SHEET
Select the directory where you want to save the file, in your case desktop
    Give the file a name
Click OK and it should be done!

You should then see a pdf icon on your desktop.

      Not doing it Elaine.

Another thing, you know the options on export family family view?

Only the pdf option is available. The other three are greyed out. Is this correct?

Yes I only have the pdf option available.
I can't think why it would make any difference but have you tried saving it to My Documents?

You can go to EDIT and select COPY FAMILY GROUP SHEET and then paste it into a Word document but it is treated as an image and if there is quite a bit of it, it comes out very small.

Just having a rethink here - and it sounds very similar to a problem the other day

I am sure these problems are related to the FTM printer driver.

Just tried again and it told me that it in unable to initialize the printer.

I'm not connected to the printer, on a laptop and I am not trying to print it.

It is referring to the FTM printer driver, which should show up in your printers folder.

I posted the following link in the other thread - see if it helps you at all

I tried the link above and uninstalled the FTM printer. I came back as it said it would but still doesn't work to save pdf.

I have to go out now but will try uninstalling my FTM later.

Yes, I do have it backed up.

Thank you Elaine for trying to help.

Ive just had a go - I dont usually venture into these realms of one name. But someone on GR contacted me with a Cheal ancestor that we share. So Ive just been there, opened the prog on my Grandmother and done an ancestor chart then Ive clicked on file and save to my documents. I hope Ive done it right! Im going to then send the file to her.

                      Still not working

Well I don't understand it at all.

I just installed FTM on my daughters laptop and put my backup in just to make sure it worked.
It did, and I managed to generate the pdf file easily on her laptop.

                      So far so good.

Uninstalled FTM on my laptop and then reinstalled and put in the backup.

                      Fine.

                      BUT

I'm still having the same problem.

I give up, think I'll email the file from my daughters laptop.

No help then! I know there are problems with pdf files using Vista, which is why people have to download the extra patch.

The problem only seems to exist with pdf files.

                              I can do anything else.

Whenever I try to export to pdf it just freezes now and I have to end task.

Just won't bother with pdf. If I do need to then I will use my daughters laptop.

Grrrr don't you hate computers sometimes
