  • Alice Parnell married who?

I'm looking to find who my Alice Parnell married. She was born c1863 Norwich.

I have two possibles, 1892 or 1896 both in Norwich.

1892 an Alice Parnell married John Henry Nightingale - Norwich Jun Q 4b 301
(I have eliminated the other two names on page)

I have found an Alice & John Nightingale on 1901 census (RG13; Piece: 1940; Folio: 56; Page: 20) and Alice's age and place of birth fits... but..

1896 an Alice Parnell married James Starks - Norwich Dec Q 4b 455
(I have eliminated the other two names on page)

I would like to confirm that the 1892 marriage is 'mine' by finding the 1894 Alice in 1901 but I can't see them anywhere.

    Can anyone help please?

Thanks Nell, but that's the one I've got :o

As there were two Alice Parnell's born Norwich, I was hoping to find the 1894married couple on the 1901 census to sort out which Alice was which.

sorry but I might not have made my question very clear :o thanks for looking.

Alice and James are transcribed as Stocks
They are living at Chequers Yard Norwich with Alice's mother Annie Rayner.

Was that the couple you were looking for? Mother's name should be really helpful.

I realised after I posted that, that it sounds a bit odd. Alice's mother should be called Parnell. However I've found a marriage 1881 Norwich for Ann Parnell and George Rayner.

              Hope that helps.

So to see which Alice is yours you need to find Mrs "Stocks" age in 1901. But perhaps both the Alices were related (maybe cousins).

I found 3 Alice Parnells born in Norwich, 1859,1862 and 1865.

Mrs Stocks matches with 1865, but they are all so close that their ages may not help. If Sue knows Alice's mother's name that would probably be the best help unless they both had mothers called Ann.

1871 census has two Alice Parnells born Norwich

Alice aged 6 parents William and Ann (so presumably later Mrs Stocks/Starks)

Alice aged 8 parents Nathaniel and Charlotte

So sorry not to have come back to this before now.

Thanks for finding the other Alice Parnell, Pat. I just couldn't see them. I think that confirms the Alice who married John Nightingale is the one I was looking for (ie 'mine')

I think Alice Starks could well be mine too, but I need to look into her a bit more yet.

                      Thankyou very much
