  • A little bit of help for Scotland please?

I am guiding my Aunt who is trying to help a friend at work do their family tree. Now my Aunt hasn't experienced Scotland's People (and to be honest I am not sure if it would help in this case) before and is trying to do as much as possible for free.

Now the problem is Andrew Selby born in Glasgow. There is another Andrew Selby born 1834 who tends to spend most of his time in England but I know its not the same one as they both appear in one of the census returns.

Here is the link to the 1871 census. - Ancestry.co.uk

I am struggling to find him all through let alone with any parents.

    Thanks in advance

Jacob Sudders born in Prussia c.1775 married Alice Pidgeon in 1800 in Gorelston. Do you know where Jacob was born?

Could this be him in 1861 in Nottinghamshire
        RG9; Piece: 2455; Folio: 30; Page: 10
place of birth given as Holloway Clackmammingthan, ?? doesn't mean anything to me!!

Cannot see a marriage on freeBMD for an Andrew Selby to a Susannah!

I would suggest that this is him in the 1841 Scotland census
Parish: Glasgow St David; ED: 13; Year: 1841.
          Name transcribed as Andw Selby

You can see the other Andrew Selby in the 1841 England census in Northumberland

1861 possible Elaine found - Glasgow, which is where he says he was born 1871 census is in Lanarkshire.

Clackmannanshire is smallest Scottish county and Genuki page on it gives these parishes and towns - but not Holloway (maybe an Anglicisation of Alloa??? or Dollarbeg/Dollarfield?

            Parishes: Alloa Clackmannan Dollar Tillicoultry

If the Andrew Selby with wife Susannah is the right family, then I think this is probably their marriage registration - taken from freeBMD

                  Marriages Dec 1869
                  EXTON Susannah
                  Basford volume 7b page 176

the equivalent entry for Andrew is:
                  Marriages Dec 1869
                  SELBY Andrew
                  District: B*f*
                  volume: *
                  Page: *

If you check the image for Andrew Selby you can see his name written by hand at the bottom of the column, and the entry matches the Susannah Exton one above.
